Just in: Burnley has now finally agree deal for star player

Japhet Tanganga became the latest addition to Millwall’s squad, securing a loan move from Tottenham until the end of the season. Despite this signing, Millwall received a stark reminder of their market needs after suffering a 2-0 defeat to QPR over the weekend. The Lions, currently positioned 18th in the Championship table, remain eight points clear of the relegation zone, emphasizing the necessity for additional reinforcements. In light of this, it appears that the club is nearing another signing to strengthen Joe Edwards’ squad for the remaining 18 games of the campaign.

Obafemi close to Millwall move

Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on Monday that Millwall and Burnley had reached an agreement in principle for the signing of striker Michael Obafemi. Subsequently, a day later, it was announced that the 23-year-old is now scheduled for a medical in preparation for his move to The Den.

While Michael Obafemi has faced challenges at Burnley, primarily due to fitness issues and limited playing time, his goal-scoring ability at the Championship level has been evident during his time with Swansea. Additionally, he played a role in Burnley’s promotion from the Championship last season, showcasing his contributions to the team’s success at that level.

Due to his goal-scoring prowess and past contributions, the addition of Republic of Ireland international Michael Obafemi could prove valuable for Millwall for the remainder of the season. However, there is speculation that this move might also pave the way for the departure of a longstanding Millwall player before the January transfer window comes to a close.

Obafemi signing could allow for Bradshaw exit

In recent reports earlier this month, it was mentioned that Tom Bradshaw, dealing with a persistent hamstring injury, is one of the players potentially departing Millwall during this transfer window. The Wales international, who has been with the club since the summer of 2018, has contributed significantly, scoring 44 goals in 188 appearances across all competitions.

Given the potential interest from several clubs in securing Bradshaw’s services, the acquisition of Michael Obafemi could increase the likelihood of the 31-year-old making a move to one of those suitors before the January transfer window concludes.

By bringing in Michael Obafemi on loan from Burnley until the end of the season, Millwall has ensured that they have adequate cover in the event of Tom Bradshaw’s potential departure. Both players have demonstrated their ability to lead an attack at this level. With expectations for Obafemi to feature regularly during his time at The Den, this could potentially push Tom Bradshaw further down the pecking order at the club.

Consequently, exploring the option of cashing in on Tom Bradshaw might become a more sensible decision for Millwall. This strategy could provide the club with an opportunity to reinvest in their squad, while also granting the Welshman the opportunity to secure more playing time once he is fully fit again.

Given that Tom Bradshaw is now in the last six months of his contract with the club, the urgency to make a decision about his future becomes more apparent. This is Millwall’s final opportunity to potentially generate revenue from his transfer. With the acquisition of Michael Obafemi ensuring sufficient cover in the attacking department, it seems logical for Millwall to consider cashing in on Bradshaw without compromising their options up front.

Considering these factors, the next signing Millwall is poised to make in the January transfer window could indeed increase the likelihood of a player departing from the club.
