Burnley send £3.5m striker to Preston North End’s next opponents as loan deal confirmed

Preston North End will encounter Michael Obafemi this weekend as Burnley has loaned the striker to Millwall in preparation for Saturday’s match. PNE, coming off a 2-1 away loss to Leeds United on Sunday afternoon, will be on the road for their upcoming fixture.

After experiencing a late defeat at Elland Road, North End must regroup and aim to get back on track in South London this weekend. Millwall, currently eight points clear of the relegation zone, recently had a three-game winning streak interrupted with a 3-1 home defeat to Middlesbrough over the weekend.

Preston North End is now seeking to hand Millwall another defeat, but they will face the challenge of dealing with a Burnley loanee, with the deal confirmed ahead of Saturday’s clash.

Millwall snap up Burnley striker Michael Obafemi ahead of PNE clash

Millwall has officially confirmed the signing of Burnley striker Michael Obafemi on loan for the remainder of the season. The 23-year-old has seen limited action in the Premier League this season, making only two substitute appearances and playing a total of 19 minutes.

In search of more playing time, Obafemi has now joined Millwall on loan. The deal has been completed, leaving Preston North End fans potentially frustrated with rivals Burnley for securing the loan move.

Despite potential rustiness due to his limited action this season, Michael Obafemi remains a proven Championship striker with the capability to make a significant impact. The Irishman showcased his goal-scoring prowess by netting 12 goals for Swansea City in the 2021-22 season, which led to Burnley securing him on loan before making the move permanent for £3.5 million last summer.

Obafemi’s talent is well-recognized, and Preston North End had previously pursued a deal to bring him to Deepdale. In 2021, Hampshire Live reported that North End was interested in signing Obafemi from Southampton but lost out to Swansea.

Now, Ryan Lowe and his team will have the challenge of facing Obafemi, aiming to keep him quiet as he potentially makes his Millwall debut, either as a starter or as a substitute, in the upcoming weekend fixture.
