A deadline approaches as Birmingham City works on a “top end of the league” transfer

Alex Pritchard is the third player Birmingham City hopes to sign during the summer window.

Birmingham City would benefit much from having Alex Pritchard, as reports of the Sunderland creator “absolutely” make sense.

A messy separation is a sad end for Sunderland and Alex Pritchard - Roker Report

The Northern Echo reports that Pritchard, 30, is expected to sign a two-and-a-half-year contract with Blues and rejoin former Black Cats manager Tony Mowbray. The 30-year-old is reportedly of interest to Blues.

BirminghamLive is aware of the sincere interest in the offensive midfielder, who may end up at the Blues, but there is still work to be done before that happens.

In this week’s episode, Keep Right On co-host Brian Dick and Blues reporter Alex Dicken talked about the situation and expressed their support for the trade.

After Mowbray talked about Pritchard’s availability after Saturday’s Leicester City game, these are their comments.

In a press conference, you would typically give 100 names to a manager, and 101 times they would respond, “Not my player, not talking about it.”

He even got up and said, “He is somebody else’s player; I am not going to,” but he did talk about it, which really astonished me. That is a strong hint.

According to rumors circulating in the Northeast, the deal is almost finalized. From what I gather, it’s not quite that close yet, but it definitely has potential, so if you were to ask me to make a prediction, I would guess Pritchard would visit Blues.

Whoscored.com lists “holding on to the ball – very strong” as one of his strengths. That explains perfectly why Tony Mowbray would want him to assist the Blues in turning into a possession-based team.

It’s important to note that the first three signings were all focused on improving ball handling skills, should Pritchard ever arrive.

Alex Dicken

I believe he will start at number 10 right away. He will blend very well with Stansfield and be able to teach the others how to play Tony Mowbray’s preferred style.

He’s always been a very impressive player at this level, in my opinion. It is only approximately four to five years ago that he was sold to Huddersfield Town for a sum of £11 million.

He performed admirably at Sunderland, mediocrely at Huddersfield after joining the Premier League, and exceptionally well at Norwich.

In addition to being a skillful player with the ability to create opportunities and occasionally score goals, Tony Mowbray mentioned that he excels in dead ball situations. That seems like a smart addition that would help the Blues.

This is the kind of acquisition you make if your goal is to compete at the highest level of the league.
