The Las Vegas Raiders’ future success depends on head coach Antonio Pierce selecting the best offensive coordinator. Making the most of the team’s abundance of offensive talent has been a problem the last several seasons.
Numerous individuals have previously been interviewed by the team for the coordinator position, but as many teams are already hiring new coordinators, the Raiders have less options available to them. Even so, the franchise has been connected to coaches like Mike Sullivan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kliff Kingsbury of the Arizona Cardinals.
However, it seems that there is another well-known option that is unknown. A previous head coach may be interviewed for the role of offensive coordinator, according to Hondo Carpenter in the most recent episode of the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast, though it is unclear exactly who that person would be:
“I was informed that there is one name that no one has, but there are still a lot other names out there. He’s not with me. I’m not sure [who] it is that could be able to get an interview with a fairly well-known coach. a former head coach. I can honestly tell you that I have no idea who it is, but I was informed it was a very well-known former coach. The individual added, “I’m not going to tell you who it is.”
This kind of behavior is sure to have people thinking about potential interview candidates for the Raiders. Kingsbury would have fit into this category if it hadn’t been previously known that he had an interview for the job, but that isn’t the case.
Adam Gase, the head coach of the New York Jets and the former Miami Dolphin, has been mentioned by some. Gase had some success as an offensive coordinator, most notably with the Denver Broncos when Peyton Manning broke the franchise record for the most passing yards in a season, despite his failure as a head coach.
There will undoubtedly be close scrutiny on the person the Raiders choose to lead the offense. Next season, the squad could advance significantly if the appropriate decision is made.
Raiders interview Alex Van Pelt & Luke Getsy for offensive coordinator position
The Raiders have been considering a number of candidates for the offensive coordinator position; although they are not the most well-known, the organization did interview Alex Van Pelt and Luke Getsy, two very interesting candidates.
Van Pelt played the same position for the Cleveland Browns the previous season, when they finished 10th in points scored despite playing with four different quarterbacks until Joe Flacco was signed after the team spent the entire season without a quarterback.
Getsy is somewhat associated with the Raiders franchise. He played the same position for the Chicago Bears for the previous two seasons, but he was able to find a little more success with the Raiders than he had with the Bears.
