McFadzean on Blackburn agreement and goals following Coventry transfer.
Kyle McFadzean says his desire to play football on a regular basis was a major factor in his decision to join Blackburn Rovers.
With the club till the end of the current campaign, the 36-year-old has inked a short-term contract. He was granted a free move out of Coventry City after years of service.
Last season, McFadzean was instrumental in leading the Sky Blues to the Championship play-off final. He was always the center of their back three, and this season was no exception.
Nevertheless, McFadzean fell down the hierarchy and lost his spot on the team after a change in lineup in November. As a result, he leaped at the chance to join Rovers and hopes to aid in their ascent up the Championship standings.
McFadzean thinks Rovers can repeat their incredible run to the play-offs from last year, which they achieved with Coventry.
“It’s huge for me; I’m simply naturally drawn to playing football. I want to do everything I can to support the team,” he said to RoversTV.
“My goal is to join the team and provide as much support as I can. Even though they are nine points out of the playoffs, they can yet make it. I want to play as much as possible, perform well, and watch what transpires at the end of the season.
“Observe Coventry and their location. Our team is decent enough.
“I usually play a lot of games each season, and my injuries have been fortunate. Despite some ups and downs, I’ve had a respectable career. I want to continue and support this squad since I am definitely not done yet.
“I’ve climbed back up after starting from the bottom. I took a few years off from football, but I worked really hard to get back to where I am now.
That’s the first and most important thing you need to accomplish. I want to do well for the squad and make my three children pleased. I want to play football for as long as I can because I enjoy it.
“I want my one-year-old son to watch me play. I’m hoping to live for a few more years.”
McFadzean will be reunited with Dom Hyam, his former teammate at Coventry. Before the captain moved to Lancashire, the two were quite close, both on and off the field.
Before moving, the 36-year-old discussed Rovers with Hyam, and now the two will once more be living together!
“I am buzzing, I can’t wait to get started and help the lads,” he said.
“I was eager to finish it. The club is enormous in size. When I chatted with Dom, he was all praise for the club.
“Coming to play for Blackburn Rovers is an amazing experience. He was very complimentary about the management and the team, so I didn’t need any convincing.
He needs to prepare the spare room because I’m moving in with him! We still talk a lot because he was my roommate, and we get along well.”
“I used to love Alan Shearer as a player growing up,” he continued. Like all the other strikers, I wanted to be one too. They were a huge team in the past, winning the Premier League.
“They have slightly declined, but when we played Blackburn at the beginning of the season, we declared that they were by far the best team we had ever faced.
