With a late burst of action, Aston Villa closed the January transfer window. On the day of the transfer deadline, Unai Emery’s team brought in three new players: Joe Gauci, Lino Sousa, and Morgan Rogers. Earlier in the month, Kosta Nedeljkovic moved for £6.5 million.
Villa easily defeated Sheffield United 5-0 at Bramall Lane on Saturday to reclaim their place in the Premier League’s top four, capping out the window. But the transfer rumors never stop, so we’ve compiled some of the most recent ones ahead of Wednesday night’s FA Cup fourth-round replay against Chelsea.
Villa given FFP answer
To avoid financial fair play issues next season, Aston Villa might have to let go of some of its best domestic players. Kieran Maguire, a football finance expert, thinks Villa will need to be shrewd in the upcoming transfer window in order to stay inside the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability rules.

Because of the money they bring in, academy players are more and more being seen as assets rather than as talented individuals. There is always that additional unique connection between the fan base and athletes who have gone through the academy ranks, so while it is one path, I’m sure it will disappoint fans.
Zaniolo wanted
Aston Villa loanee Nicolo Zaniolo is reportedly drawing interest from several Serie A clubs. According to the Italian website TuttoMercatoWeb, Zaniolo is reportedly being watched by AC Milan, Napoli, and Fiorentina this summer.
Zaniolo has made 15 Premier League appearances under Emery this season; Villa has the option to purchase him from Galatasaray at the end of his loan. His lone league goal came against Sheffield United just before Christmas. The 24-year-old played his youth ball at Fiorentina before moving on to play as a young player at Roma after periods at Virtus Entalla and Inter Milan.
