Like the rest of the Premier League, Newcastle was unable to make any significant acquisitions in January due to financial constraints, but things might be very different in the summer.

Many teams, including Newcastle, were interested in Serhous Guirassy. Although his £15 million release clause was not fulfilled, Romano is stating that it will become active once more in the summer.

Newcastle can still make bargain buy in the summer

After the season that Guirassy had for Stuttgart, it was almost surprising that no one took the chance and signed him in January; yet, the striker himself decided to remain with the team.

The 27-year-old has scored 17 goals in 14 Bundesliga games this season, and he has contributed 21 goals overall in 16 games across all competitions—an absolutely “outstanding” record.

That’s why it was so frustrating to learn that he was just asking for £15 million, and Newcastle wouldn’t even have enough money to pay it if he had decided to quit the team.

With Champions League and Adidas money coming in, it is hoped that there will be a lot more money to spend in six months, so they may revisit this deal to locate a new attacker.

Newcastle’s attack needs an overhaul

With just one year remaining on his current contract and ongoing injury concerns, it’s practically expected that Callum Wilson will be traded in the summer, so they’ll want to take advantage of the opportunity to make a quick profit.

That would leave Alexander Isak, another player who has struggled with injuries over the past 18 months, as the team’s lone recognized striker—clearly insufficient.

Eddie Howe should ideally have three attackers available to him, two of whom should rotate with one another and maybe a third, younger attacker content to be the third choice as he waits for his chance to make the first team.

There’s little doubt that Guirassy has room to enter and play a lot of minutes, especially if Isak keeps having fitness issues. The question is if the club has recognized him as a major objective.
