For the upcoming campaign, Coventry City has already added one interesting new player: Ephron Mason-Clark, a highly-regarded left winger for Peterborough United. However, it has surfaced that the Sky Blues have intentions for a few more of Posh’s players, as Darragh MacAnthony, the club’s owner in Cambridgeshire, disclosed.

The outspoken—some might even say loose-lipped—chairman provided an intriguing glimpse into the negotiations between himself and City owner Doug King’s “relentless” pursuit of Mason-Clark in his most recent podcast, The Hard Truth. “Doug asked for an option on one of my other players as well, because they like quite a few of our players,” stated the 47-year-old Irish businessman.

So, who might be the next target for Dean Austin and his hiring team? Here, we examine the most attractive players from League One who could be a good match for Mark Robins’ developing team. Naturally, Coventry have a clear process in place for identifying players who are relatively young but have a lot of promise for growth, and they have a track record of successfully developing these players under the guidance of Adi Viveash.

Harrison Burrows, 22, left-back/left midfielder

Burrows, who attended Peterborough’s Academy, has played in almost 150 first team games, including 36 in the Championship in 2021–2022, and has made 39 appearances thus far this season. Said to be a natural midfielder with quick reflexes for left-back defensive play, he is a good passer and forward even though he isn’t the fastest guy on the ground. Despite this, he is a fantastic baller who leads League One in assists (2009) and has scored four goals this season (6 in all competitions).

Posh have the option to extend his contract by another year even though it expires in the summer.

Archie Collins, 24, midfielder

Collins joined Posh from Exeter in the summer of last year for an undisclosed cost. In 38 games, he has three goals and three assists. He was once described as “a versatile player who can play up front, just behind the striker, wide right, wide left, or in central midfield” by Exeter, but he has since moved into a more regular position at London Road, in the middle of the park. Collins is a busier midfield player who snuffs out danger and is a great game reader. Although he has a long ball in his locker, he is a tidy passer. He also understands the pitch rather well.

extended till 2026.

Hector Kyprianou, 22, defensive midfielder, can play centre-back, right footed

Former Tottenham Academy prospect Kyprianou signed a three-year contract with Posh in the summer of 2022 after leaving Leyton Orient for an unknown price. This season, he has made 40 appearances and scored five goals. Standing at six feet four inches, he usually accepts the ball deep. He can finish on the edge of the penalty box for crosses and is excellent at holding onto the ball under duress. He is a tall boy who is really helpful with sets. made his center-back debut in Cyprus last season, marking Erling Haaland.

During the final week of the January transfer window, Watford attempted to sign him. His contract expires in 2025.

Ronnie Edwards, 20, centre-back

Edwards, who joined Peterborough in the summer of 2020 for an undisclosed cost, has made 124 appearances overall in all competitions for the team. This season, he has appeared in 36 games. He’s a ball-playing defender who is regarded as outstanding when it comes to the ball and whose defensive play has also developed leaps and bounds. Capped by the England Under-20 team, he would fit right in with City’s vibe.

Kwame Poku, 22, right winger, can also play on the left.

Poku arrived from Colchester in 2021 and has scored nine goals in 33 games so far this season (in 25 League One games, he has eight goals and eight assists). The youngster, who is younger than Ephron Mason-Clark and extremely good, has been drawing a lot of attention from Championship teams. He is a fantastic dribbler who can play as a 10 or a winger and who also generates and scores goals.

He is under contract until 2025 and is a Ghanaian international.
