Jim Harbaugh, the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, and one of his old San Francisco 49ers teammates seem to be planning a reunion in California.
NaVorro Bowman, a former All-Pro 49ers linebacker, is anticipated to join Harbaugh’s staff and take over as the Chargers’ linebackers coach. The two parties are apparently driven to close a deal even though none has been reached yet.
The last position Bowman held was defensive analyst for the football team of the University of Maryland Terrapins.
For the first part of the 2010s, Bowman was among the league’s top linebackers. Prior to sustaining an MCL and ACL tear that forced him to miss the whole 2014 season on injured reserve, Bowman was selected to the first team of the All-Pro team in 2011 and 2013. Prior to Bowman’s exit after the 2014 campaign, Harbaugh was the team’s head coach.
In 2017, Bowman was released by the 49ers after they attempted to trade him after he appeared in five games. After the 2017 season, he signed a contract with the Oakland Raiders and announced his retirement.
Over 99 games, Bowman recorded 798 tackles and 14.0 sacks. He was nominated to six Pro Bowls and four first-team All-Pro selections.
