The former Padres standout appears to be of interest to the Yankees.
One former Padres player is still searching for a new place to call home.
Surprisingly, former Padres sensation Blake Snell is still available. The 2023 National League Cy Young Award winner has been searching this summer for a big contract but hasn’t been able to find one.
This year’s free agent market has surprised me. There are still several excellent options available, and things have advanced painfully slowly. Considered to be the greatest free agent still available, Snell is apparently attracting “serious interest” from one team. Bob Nightengale of USA Today claims that team is the New York Yankees.
“The New York Yankees, who offered free-agent starter Blake Snell a five-year, $150 million contract before turning to Marcus Stroman last month, still have serious interest in him,” Nightengale stated. “They are waiting to see if his asking price drops on a long-term deal or if he agrees to take a short-term contract that could pay him in excess of $35 million a year.”
With 32 starts for San Diego last season, Snell’s 2.25 ERA topped the National League. The left-hander will probably be playing somewhere else in 2024 after spending the previous three seasons with the Padres.
