The Packers will want to build on their postseason success in the 2024 NFL Draft after an outstanding finish to the season.
Even the most hopeful Wisconsin football fans were impressed by the Green Bay Packers during a season when expectations were kept low. After finishing 9-8 during the regular season, the team defeated the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL Playoffs’ Wild Card Round before losing narrowly to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round.
Over the course of the season, the young bunch of pass-catchers demonstrated incredible progress, and Jordan Love established himself as a franchise quarterback. Now that the Packers’ season is finished, attention will need to shift to the 2024 NFL Draft and the impending summer. In an attempt to capitalize on a successful season, the Packers should select these four sneakily talented athletes in the draft.
Kamren Kinchens, Miami, Florida, Safety
The secondary is the most evident area where the Packers need improvement this offseason. This offseason, none of the safety or corners save Jaire Alexander and Darnell Savage will feel secure in their role. Kamren Kinchens, a safety from Miami, is one guy that Green Bay may pick in the draft. With 11 interceptions over the past two years—leading the ACC both years—including two pick-sixes, the junior is a cunning ball-hawk. Because he enjoys lowering his shoulder and participating close to the line of scrimmage, he is also a strong run supporter.
Among Green Bay’s greatest flaws in 2023 at the free safety position was Jonathan Owens; nonetheless, playmaking safety Kamren Kinchens can cover the entire field.
Arizona’s Jordan Morgan, an offensive tackle
When healthy, David Bakhtiari ranks among the league’s top offensive tackles. In two of the previous three seasons, the veteran has missed every game but one. The 32-year-old might be a salary cap casualty when he approaches the final year of his deal in 2024. The Packers will want to have a backup plan in place for Bakhtiari when he eventually does decide to depart, even if he decides to stay. Jordan Morgan, an offensive tackle for Arizona who started for three seasons with the Wildcats, recovered from an ACL tear at the end of 2022 to be named to the Pac-12 First Team in 2023.
Morgan is a very athletic and fluid player who can block passes as well as runs. Morgan is a player with a lot of potential who might fall to the Packers in the second round, despite his injury history being a worry.
T.J. Tampa (Cornerback), University of Iowa
Early in the draft, expect the Packers to address their problems in the secondary. T.J. Tampa, an Iowa State cornerback, is 6-2 and 200 pounds, giving him the bulk and physicality to be a force in the NFL. That’s not to diminish his speed, which is still far above average even if it’s not great. Tampa finished his senior year at ISU with 44 tackles (three for a loss), two interceptions, and seven passes defended. He provides the ideal blend of size, quickness, and experience to make an instant impact on this Packers pass defense.
Florida State’s Trey Benson (Running Back)
In 2024, this Packers backfield might appear significantly different. While 29-year-old Aaron Jones is about to enter the last year of his contract, A.J. Dillon is a free agent. The most likely scenario for Jones is to play with a new backfield partner, but the Packers could possibly use an entirely different RB tandem.
There aren’t any outstanding running backs available this year as draft candidates. Trey Benson of Florida State leads the RB big board, despite not being picked until the third round. Over his final two years at FSU, Benson gained 1,896 yards and 23 touchdowns on 310 carries (6.1 YPC). He has a fantastic blend of strength and speed, making him an explosive and aggressive runner. In 2024, Benson will be an excellent backup back for Aaron Jones, and if Jones leaves after the season, he can take over full-time.
