Following his retirement from the NFL, Baker Mayfield was given the job of leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offense. The team might lose the quarterback to free agency as the league approaches in search of a better opportunity in a different location.
Mayfield was once considered a stopgap after Brady retired, but he was selected first overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2018 NFL Draft. When Tampa Bay signed him to a $4 million, one-year contract to be the backup quarterback for Kyle Trask, that was the reasoning behind the signing.
The fact is, Mayfield’s performance exceeded everyone’s expectations, shocking everyone. This was evident in the Buccaneers’ convincing 30-12 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in December of last year.
Before the Jaguars scored any scores in the game, Mayfield led the Buccaneers to a 30-0 lead at one point. With Mayfield at the core of it, it was regarded as Tampa Bay’s strongest offensive showing.
