BREAKING NEWS: Buffalo Bills Just Confirm Find financial Relief $255.4 million NFL Salary Cap

The NFL said on Friday, February 23 that each team’s 2024 salary cap will be $255.4 million. Tom Pelissero broke the story first, adding that each club will receive “an additional $74 million for player benefits, which includes Performance Based Pay and benefits for retired players.”

The most important thing to remember from this is that the real figure is much greater than expected. Thus, the Buffalo Bills’ ability to shed money in order to get under the cap for the upcoming season is the most significant news.

The figure that was being floated prior to Friday’s news was a projected $242.5 million cap. Consequently, the front office and general manager Brandon Beane instantly erased nearly $13 million from their overage.

Hence, One Bills Drive is now “just” $41 million over the quota for the upcoming season rather than $54 million over the ceiling for 2024. Yes, even with this news, they remain over the cap ceiling, which is the negative news. However, they haven’t taken any action to free up cap space, and they are now $13 million closer to compliance.

It will be interesting to observe how Beane and company react to this development. Can they now re-sign one of the free agents that many believe are on their way out? If that’s the case, players like Taylor Rapp, an edge rusher, and defensive tackle DaQuan Jones might be among the top contenders to return to One Bills Drive.

What might Von Miller’s departure mean in terms of the Buffalo Bills’ salary cap?
