It makes sense for a number of reasons, but Steve Wyche recently stated on his NFL Report show that he doesn’t think a Justin Fields deal would be intriguing for Terry Fontenot.
No obstacle is, in my opinion, as significant as the fit in Zac Robinson’s offense. It is anticipated that the former quarterbacks coach and coordinator for the Rams’ pass game, Sean McVay, will use a version of the scheme that has been most successful when used by Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff.
There aren’t many similarities between Justin Fields and me, and to be honest, it’s unfair to expect such a dynamic player to play in a system without using his best weapon. That’s precisely what Wyche said.

However, Robinson also stated that the Falcons aren’t limiting their options when it comes to quarterbacks. As such, if Robinson is certain that he can develop a scheme around Fields that will enable him to reach his maximum potential, the team ought to be more receptive to the notion.
Fit is by far the hardest barrier to get through, but it’s not the only one. The terms of Justin Fields’ contract should also be taken into account.
Based on Fields’ resume and his previous first-round pick status in 2021, the Falcons would be making a choice on his fully guaranteed $22 million in 2025. Fields has a fifth-year option that requires a decision by May 2. It’s not the best situation.
Assume Atlanta wants to only ensure he is paid $3.2 million in 2024. It’s possible that he may demonstrate this season that his experiences in Chicago were what was keeping him back and have a career year.
That would also be bad for the Falcons since it would position Fields to take a high-paying contract as he gets closer to free agency. Spotrac’s long-term estimate, based on his model, is around $283 million spread over six years.
On the one hand, there’s really no excuse not to pay a franchise quarterback once you’ve found one.
However, the Falcons must consider the possibility of Fields being paid among the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league and not getting a rookie contract at all. I
It’s just one more thing that Terry Fontenot, Raheem Morris, and the group will take into account.
