Round 1, No. 17: Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo

Quinyon Mitchell, a native of Florida, was rated as a three-star recruit by 247Sports. In the 2020 recruiting class, he was rated as the No. 155 cornerback recruit, the No. 243 recruit in Florida, and the No. 1,747 recruit overall. Over offers from Illinois, Alcorn State, Florida Atlantic, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, South Alabama, South Dakota, and USF, Mitchell chose Toledo as his university.
As a true freshman in 2020, Mitchell participated in six games and recorded seven tackles. Mitchell had 13 starts in 2021 and finished with 34 tackles, 8 passes defensed, and 1 forced fumble.
With 25 passes defended, Mitchell led the nation in 2022 and was named to the first team of the MAC and the third team of the All-American team. He also had five interceptions, 41 tackles, and four tackles for loss.
After finishing his collegiate career with a stellar senior year that included 18 pass breakups, one interception, 41 tackles, and two tackles for loss, Mitchell was chosen for the first team of the MAC and the second team of All-America. With 46 career pass breakups, Mitchell finished his collegiate career as Toledo’s all-time leader.
Mitchell would be the first player from Toledo to be taken in the first round since Dan Williams was the No. 11 pick in 1993, should he be selected in the first round.
Despite the fact that starting cornerbacks Tyson Campbell and Darious Williams are still under contract, Mitchell has grown in popularity as a connection to the Jaguars. At his inaugural press conference earlier this month, defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen made it apparent how important coverage is, even if each corner is about to approach a contract year.
