Standout Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins is now qualified for a contract extension after playing in three NFL seasons
The former Michigan player selected to the All-Big Ten Conference team is in the final year of a four-year, $4.852 million rookie contract following a breakout season.
This comprises a basic pay of $1.324 million for this year together with a signing bonus of $902,990. Collins is ready to let negotiations move at their own speed because he respects the team’s approach and because NFL rules permit early contract extensions after three seasons.
Collins told KPRC 2 that “Oh man, I would love that.” That’d be fantastic. That seems to be the goal that everyone strives for. I’ll just let them do anything they want to do and whatever they chose. I’m going to stand it. I, for one, am going to keep improving and honing my craft. We can negotiate if they so choose.
Collins, who weighs 215 pounds and is 6-foot-4, clocks a time of 4.4 seconds for the 40-yard dash. In 15 regular-season games, he caught 80 passes for 1,297 yards and eight touchdowns during his exceptional season.
He continued to be productive in the postseason, hauling in 11 passes for 164 yards and a touchdown on 17 targets in two games.
Collins told KPRC, “Man, it was amazing, a blessed season.” “I did miss a few games, but I recovered well. I performed well on the team. I continued to be well. I lost it. Although it was a long season, it was enjoyable. Many memories; I can’t wait to resume work and continue where we left off. Fantastic guys in the changing room; this year promises to be really fun.
The Texans, who improved from 3-13-1 a year ago to 11-8 overall and the AFC South division winner, were led by quarterback C.J. Stroud and coach DeMeco Ryans thanks in large part to Collins’ potent downfield presence.
Collins wants to improve on the successes from the 2023 campaign.
It’s time to resume where we left off and reload. It’s a pleasure to be among such a fantastic crew, Collins remarked. “I believe the moment is right. I can’t wait for everyone to return. We seem to be embarking on a quest. It is true. It is, in fact. We are eager to continue where we left off. We hadn’t intended to end like that. We all seem to be bought in, locked in, and determined to disprove everyone once more.
