REPORT: Kansas City Chiefs Optimistic They Will Re-Sign Star To Long-Term Contract - Gridiron Heroics

The Kansas City Chiefs, who won their second consecutive Super Bowl, have contracts expiring for key players on both sides of the ball this offseason. One of those contracts is with star defensive lineman Chris Jones, who is the cornerstone of the Chiefs’ defense and is likely to get a hefty new contract.

Chris Jones is expected to make $28.4 million per season under his next contract.

Jones is expected to earn $85 million over the next three years, based on Spotrac’s market valuation analysis. This equates to $28.4 million on an average yearly wage. Jones, who will be 30 years old in July, led the Chiefs with 10.5 sacks, 29 quarterback hits, and 13 tackles for loss.

According to The Athletic, there is “growing optimism” that both parties will agree on a deal to retain Jones in Kansas City long-term. On Tuesday, General Manager Brett Veach stated that re-signing Jones is the team’s primary priority.

They just released Marques Valdez-Scantling, freeing up $12 million in cap space. Kansas City is anticipated to franchise tag L’Jarius Sneed and is open to a sign-and-trade.
