Adam Peters: NFL Draft Targeting the O-Line?
The Washington Commanders, who waived Charles Leno Jr. on Friday, are in need of an offensive tackle.
It’s likely that the Commanders will look to upgrade in the draft, where Adam Peters, the new general manager, has discovered some hidden jewels while working as John Lynch’s assistant with the San Francisco 49ers.
Below is a list of some of the offensive linemen he has selected in recent years.
Mike McGlinchey, first round (2018)

2020: Fifth round: Colton McKivitz (153)
2021: Second round (48): Aaron Banks
Spencer Burford, fourth round (2022) (134)

When it comes to bolstering the offensive line, the 49ers have been inconsistent in their use of both the draft and free agency. Right tackle McGlinchey was San Francisco’s highest-picked offensive lineman. Prior to the 2018 season, he signed a five-year, $87 million contract with the Denver Broncos in free agency.
While McKivitz and Burford were mid-round selections, they fought their way up to starting positions, and Banks has established himself as an anchor in the interior of the offensive line.
After allowing the second-most sacks the previous season, the Commanders’ most pressing need is probably to improve the offensive line. Given his track record with the 49ers, Peters might not be hesitant to select an early quarterback if he isn’t in love with any of the prospects in this class.
