Green Bay, Wisconsin – The Green Bay Packers begin the offseason trying to improve their secondary, with needs ranging from huge (cornerback), extra large (safety), and potential (slot).

In Sports Illustrated’s Luke Easterling’s four-round mock draft, the Packers selected Iowa defensive back Cooper DeJean, who can do it all.

“One of the most versatile and athletic players in the draft, DeJean can play outside or in the slot at cornerback, as well as on the back end at safety. Easterling noted, “He also adds value as a big-play threat in the return game.”

DeJean recorded five interceptions in 2022, including three pick-sixes. In 2023, he returned a punt for a score and allowed only 20-of-46 passing attempts, according to Pro Football Focus. The majority of his snaps have come at cornerback, however he did play 140 snaps in the slot in 2022.

“I think it’s more about my adaptability. “I’ve demonstrated that I can play both outside and inside [in the slot],” DeJean stated at the Scouting Combine this week. “I believe that being able to play numerous positions gives you an edge in this league. I will play wherever. “I just want to play ball.”

DeJean may go through the draft without a 40-yard time or any test results. He shattered his fibula in November and only recently resumed running at full pace. He didn’t expect to compete at Iowa’s pro day, which is scheduled for March 18, but he might have an individual workout in April.

The clip from Iowa and his high school basketball film indicate an exceptional athlete.

“I’m a physical guy,” DeJean explained. “I can run.” I have a decent feel for the game. I think I can also help with the run game.”

According to Easterling’s mock draft, Green Bay’s second-round picks, Miami safety Kamren Kinchens and Texas A&M linebacker Edgerrin Cooper, are more likely to be selected. Cooper is a 6-foot-2, 306-pound defensive lineman with exceptional athleticism and an All-American Relative Athletic Score.
