Three reasons the New York Giants need to select a quarterback in the NFL Draft of 2024

Even the most ardent Daniel Jones fan would have to concede that the New York Giants need to find a new quarterback after yet another season marred by injuries and turnovers.

The 26-year-old quarterback has two touchdown passes versus six interceptions in his six starts this season as the team finished 1–5. However, in Week 9 against the Raiders, he tore his ACL. His quarterback rating of 70.5 was the lowest on the club, ranking behind only Danny DeVito and Tyrod Taylor.

Jones currently has a 22-36-1 career win-loss record. Although he hasn’t been the sole cause of the Giants’ problems, he hasn’t been able to improve himself or his teammates when it counted most. He is now recovering from an ACL tear, which could jeopardize his most valuable skill—his ability to create plays with his legs.

These are the three reasons they should select a quarterback in the NFL Draft next month: head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen could be under pressure.

There is a strong quarterback draft class in 2024.

Many quarterbacks are predicted to be selected in the first half of the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, making it one of the strongest draft classes in recent memory. These quarterbacks are J.J. McCarthy, who assisted in leading the Michigan Wolverines to a National Championship, Drake Maye of North Carolina, 2022 Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams, and 2023 Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels.

Furthermore, Bo Nix of Oregon, who has 61 collegiate starts, and Michael Penix Jr. of Washington, an AP Second Team All-American, may still be available in the second round. Both have a ton of playing experience, which the Giants franchise has always considered to be advantageous.

When another quarterback class this deep and this promising will appear is a mystery. Therefore, it would be wise for New York to pick up their quarterback now.

Giants of New York have the draft money to advance.

The Giants had the sixth overall pick in the draft in addition to the 39th and 47th picks, which they received in exchange for Leonard Williams from the Seattle Seahawks. A team rarely has three picks in the top 50, so Joe Schoen must take advantage of this chance.

The Giants have the draft capital to move up and select one of the best quarterbacks in this class with these three selections plus their first-round pick from the following year. Alternatively, they may use the sixth overall pick to address a different position before trading back into the first round to choose a quarterback.

If you manage to acquire your desired quarterback and they go on to become a star, there’s never a price too high to pay.

The Giants acquired Eli Manning in a blockbuster trade with the Chargers that took place 20 years ago this year. In exchange, they received Phillip Rivers, a 2004 third-round pick, and first and fifth-round picks in the 2005 NFL Draft. Manning brought the team two Lombardi trophies, and New York emerged victorious from that exchange. In an attempt to acquire their franchise quarterback, the Giants may be ready to pull off another spectacular trade, hoping for a similar outcome.

Give their guy a chance, Daboll and Schoen.

Since Jones was drafted three years before to Daboll and Schoen’s arrival in 2022, they inherited him. While Schoen did provide him a four-year, $160 million contract last summer, a large portion of that was because there weren’t many options available and the team was making the playoffs for the first time in six years.

As we previously stated, if New York has another season with ten or more losses, Daboll and Schoen’s jobs may be in peril. They need to get their guy to be the team’s signal caller so they can decide whether they sink or swim. Daboll is considered by many to be a quarterback guru because of the way he developed Josh Allen in Buffalo. It’s time to bring out the best in him and locate the Giants quarterback.

Daniel Jones will be on the Giants roster in 2024 because of his contract, but it does not mean he has to start every game. It’s time for New York to look elsewhere for leadership and see if someone else can help them return to the elite league.
