For another year, Desmond King is back in Houston. According to KPRC2 Sports, the veteran defensive back and the Houston Texans have reached an agreement on a one-year contract at $1.8 million with a potential value of $2.2 million.

King, 29, first played for the Texans under David Culley in 2021. After Lovie Smith was named head coach in 2022, he re-signed a two-year, $7 million contract, but he was cut during the final preseason cuts in August of last year.

King played a stint for the Pittsburgh Steelers before returning to the Texans. Following the season-ending injury to starting nickel defender Tavierre Thomas, he played a crucial role in the AFC South winning defense. 47 tackles, one sack, one fumble recovery, five tackles for losses, and two quarterback hits were totaled by the former All-Pro defensive back for the Los Angeles Chargers.

Arriving from Iowa in the 2017 draft, King has played in seven seasons and recorded 473 tackles, nine interceptions, three forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries, and two touchdowns with two punt returns for a score. Since the beginning of the offseason, King is the fifth player for the Texans to re-sign.
