Green Bay, Wisconsin With the confirmation of safety Xavier McKinney’s signing on Thursday, the Green Bay Packers made a significant addition to their secondary.

McKinney, an Alabama product selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, was a shining star on an otherwise disappointing New York Giants team. During his four seasons with the G-Men, he had 46 starts in 49 games and totaled 9 interceptions.

McKinney had 11 passes defended and three interceptions from the previous season. He also had two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. He recorded two tackles for loss out of 116 total tackles, including 78 solo stops.

The only two NFL players with more than 250 tackles, eight interceptions, and twenty-five passes defensed in the last three seasons are McKinney and safety Jordan Whitehead of the Buccaneers.

The Packers defense, which finished in the middle of the pack in terms of yards allowed per pass and passing touchdowns allowed the previous season, will benefit from McKinney’s addition. In terms of interceptions last season, the Packers defense finished bottom in the NFC and second-to-last in the NFL.
