Oklahoma Coach Brent Venables Gives Bad News Injury Report on Injured Sooners

Andrel Anthony and McKade Mettauer are among the team’s leaders in their respective positions, and both suffered injuries versus Texas on Saturday.

Oklahoma coach Brent Venables provided an injury report following practice on Monday night, and the news is not good.

McKade Mettauer, an offensive lineman, exited the Texas game with a protective boot on his left foot due to an ankle sprain. Venables expects him to return shortly.

However, Andrel Anthony, the team’s leading receiver, received less positive news.

Venables stated that Anthony, who suffered a leg injury in the fourth quarter, “is going to have to have season-ending surgery.”

“It’s tough,” Venables said. “You hate it for him. We have other guys, but you despise Andrel for how hard he works. We made it to 6-0, thanks in large part to him. However, his best football is still ahead of him. He’ll have a fantastic career following this surgery.”

Venables stated that cornerback Gentry Williams “is good; he practiced today.” Williams also departed the fourth quarter with an injury but attended the postgame press conference.

Mettauer, a fifth-year senior from the Houston area, has been a starter for three years after moving from California. He has started every game at right guard this season and ranks among the team leaders in total snaps.

Anthony, a Detroit native and transfer from Michigan, leads the Sooners in receiving with 429 yards and 27 catches, ranking second.
