Ranking every Warriors’ offseason departure from inconsequential to regretful

Over the 2023 summer, the Golden State Warriors underwent a substantial roster turnover following a turbulent season that ended with a second-round loss at the hands of the Los Angeles Lakers.

The majority of that was their own doing, including a huge deal in June with the Washington Wizards. In the offseason, there were eight players left, and nine if you count James Wiseman, who was traded to the Detroit Pistons during the trade deadline.

On paper, the 2023–24 Warrior lineup appears far more impressive, primarily due to the development of Jonathan Kuminga and the team’s more prepared youngsters, Trayce Jackson-Davis and Brandin Podziemski.

Even so, Golden State is still a long way from pulling off the same accomplishment of winning a postseason series. They are now ranked tenth in the Western Conference and will probably need to win two Play-In games in order to even qualify for the playoffs.

Did all the offseason changes prove to be worthwhile? Yes, to put it briefly. The form of the Warriors’ veteran players—Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins, in particular—as well as Draymond Green’s early-season bans have contributed to their difficulties. It was unlikely that the majority of the players they let go or traded for in the offseason would have a big impact on this team’s performance.

But let’s examine each of the eight players more closely, grouping them from unimportant exits to one member the team will truly regret losing.
