Sharpshooter for the Detroit Pistons Talks About Upcoming Free Agency
Simone Fontecchio, a veteran of the Detroit Pistons, talks about the offseason.
Several new players were added by the Detroit Pistons at the trade deadline. Simone Fontecchio, who was acquired from the Utah Jazz, was one of them. After making a strong impression on his new team, Fontecchio talked candidly about his impending free agency.
Fontecchio’s bird rights were a contributing factor in the Pistons’ decision to acquire him at that time. The 28-year-old will be eligible for restricted free agency this offseason. The Pistons can now match any offer sheet that Fontecchio signs in free agency, thanks to his Bird Rights.
Regarding his summer free agency, Fontecchio says he plans to return to Detroit. In order to advance in his position, he also stated that he intended to work very hard this summer.
Fontecchio stated, “I’m a restricted free agent, so I’m probably going to be here.” That’s excellent because, having spent the last two months here, I am familiar with Monty’s philosophy, system, and style of play. Knowing what my role will be in the offseason, I will most surely work.”
Regarding an extension, Fontecchio is excited to play for the Pistons for a long time to come. One of his main objectives going into the summer is to remain with the team permanently.
“I’m excited about what lies ahead,” he said. “I love my family, I love Detroit, I love the Pistons organization, and this summer, everyone, we’re going to work for my long-term stay here. That’s what we both want, including me.”
After being traded from the Jazz, Fontecchio participated in 16 games for the Pistons this season. During that period, he shot 42.6% from beyond the arc on more than six tries per game, averaging a career-high 15.4 points per game.
