A prominent NHL player has committed to a four-year contract extension worth $53 million with the Dallas Stars. This announcement ensures that Jason Robertson will remain a part of the team, dispelling any rumors of a potential move to Toronto.
The re-signing of Auston Matthews was a top priority for the Dallas Stars’ new general manager, James Edward Nill, as he made clear at the beginning of the offseason.
Nill successfully accomplished this objective on Friday by finalizing a deal with the franchise center, reportedly valued at $53 million over four years. Commencing from the 2024–25 season, Matthews will earn an average annual salary of $13.25 million, making it the highest in the NHL.
Despite Dallas reportedly seeking a longer-term agreement, Matthews opted for a shorter duration, potentially opening up another significant contract opportunity in the future. By choosing a four-year term instead of the maximum eight years, Matthews positions himself to negotiate another lucrative deal sooner. Otherwise, he would have had to wait until just before his 24th birthday for his next chance at securing a substantial contract.
