Nate Oats, coach of Alabama, signs a new 6-year, $30 million contract.

Alabama’s Tuscaloa (AP) In the midst of the program’s best regular season in decades, Alabama coach Nate Oats has agreed to a new six-year, $30 million contract.

The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees Compensation Committee approved a deal on Friday that will pay Oats an average of $5 million plus incentives over the course of the contract, which will run through the 2028–2029 season.

Athletic director Greg Byrne stated that this places him among the top 10 nationally and as the fourth-highest-paid basketball coach in the Southeastern Conference.

Oats, who is in his fourth season, will receive raises of $200,000 a year after earning $4.5 million in his first year. This far into a season, the Crimson Tide (19-3, 9-0 SEC) are ranked fourth, which is the highest this team has been since 1976–77.

Oats released a statement saying, “I am honored and humbled to receive a contract extension from the University of Alabama.” “As I have said many times, my family and I love this community, the city of Tuscaloosa, and the university.

“I am incredibly proud of what we have been able to build during our time at UA, which is a direct reflection of the student-athletes, coaches, and staff who have all played a big part in our success. I am enthusiastic about our program’s future developments and the path we are taking.”
