Alec Marsh was placed on injured reserve by the Royals after suffering a liner to his pitching elbow.

AP, Kansas City, Missouri Right-hander Alec Marsh, who had been having a breakout season, was put on the injured list by the Kansas City Royals on Thursday after taking a 91 mph liner off his pitching elbow against the Blue Jays the night before.

With one out in the fifth inning on Wednesday, Addison Barger of Toronto hit a fastball at Marsh, breaking his record without giving up a run. The ball bounced off Marsh’s elbow, more toward his forearm, with such force that the laces were indented.

X-rays taken following the game revealed no fractures, but because the ball struck close to the flexor tendon, the Royals decided to be cautious.

Before the Royals’ four-game series against the Blue Jays came to an end, manager Matt Quatraro said, “He is got a good horseshoe there from the seams.” “We just can not take that chance with somebody that is that important to us going forward. He can go out there (for his next start), maybe not.”

Marsh, 25, was vying for a spot on the squad going into spring training, but he unexpectedly won the last position in the rotation. He is gone 3-0 to reward the Royals’ belief in him.
