CURRENT UPDATE: Mike Hammond, a member of the British national team, perishes in a car accident

In a car crash this week, one of the best forwards in Great Britain lost his life. Hammond was thirty-three.

Hammond was reportedly involved in a single-car collision on Wednesday in Shawnigan Lake, British Columbia.

The Nottingham Panthers, Mike Hammond’s former team, released a statement saying, “The Panthers would like to send our thoughts to Mike’s family and friends at this very difficult time.” “Everyone at the club is thinking of Hammy and his family right now, including us and all of his former teammates.

“Mike, may you rest in peace. You will always be remembered.”

Hammond spent his junior years in Western Canada, playing in the BCHL, WHL, VIJHL, and Canadian college ranks. He was born in Brighton, Great Britain, in 1990. In 2015–16, he would make his professional debut with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL. In 2016–17, he would return to Britain. After that, Hammond had a successful career in Europe, finishing first in the EIHL with 83 points in 2017–18.
