‘We Got His Back!’ Bucs QB Baker Mayfield’s Competitive Spirit Endears Him To Teammates
QB Baker Mayfield, a free agent, signed a one-year “prove it” contract with the Tampa Bay Bucs last offseason, and he certainly did.
After leading the Bucs to another division title and a playoff victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card round, the former Texas Tech Red Raider and Oklahoma Sooner secured a three-year, $100 million contract extension with Tampa Bay.
Additionally, has grown to be a local fan favorite, as Bucs general manager Jason Licht notes.
This week on the Loose Cannons podcast, Licht declared, “He won over the entire city.” “When I had a flat tire, I recall having a mechanic come get me at my car. It was quite the ordeal; he picked me up in the morning, brought it over, drove me to work, and then took the car. With this guy that I have known for a very long time, Jason, it was fantastic. Nevertheless, he said to me as we were leaving for work early in the morning, “Hey, will you let Baker know he is my dawg?” “We got his back,” he says. That is our guy, he says, this being the preseason.
