Patrice Bergeron is improving, but the Bruins captain will miss Wednesday night’s Game 2 against the Florida Panthers at TD Garden.
Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery declared Bergeron out for the game during the team’s morning skate at Warrior Ice Arena, stating that the 37-year-old is not out due to sickness. Bergeron has an injury, but Montgomery did not provide any other information on the condition.
Bergeron took the ice before Wednesday’s morning practice, but as he did on Tuesday, he departed before his teammates arrived.
Bergeron missed the first game of the series on Monday night, which Boston won 3-1 to take a 1-0 lead. He exited Boston’s last regular-season game at Montreal on April 13, leaving in the first period due to an upper-body injury. He sat out all of Boston’s pre-playoff workouts and missed Game 1 due to the injury and an infection that has been spreading among the Boston locker room in recent weeks.
While Bergeron looks to have overcome his sickness, he is still battling with the injury and is not ready for game play.
Pavel Zacha will captain Boston’s top line on Wednesday night as the Bruins attempt to grab a 2-0 series lead against Florida.
