ESPN REPORT: Just In Toronto Blue Jays Re-Sign Of Another Top Star Player
Blue Jays may be making big change to their trade-deadline strategy
With only 11 days until the MLB trade deadline, the Toronto Blue Jays look to be shifting their strategy significantly.
The Blue Jays are now willing to deal players under team control in 2025, according to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi. That suggests that the organization would be open to consider offers for star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and shortstop Bo Bichette.
Guerrero and Bichette each have one year of team control remaining and are available for free agency following the 2025 season. Previously, the Blue Jays were hesitant to move them, since it would mean admitting that their efforts to create a winning team around them were unsuccessful. This would also rule out the possibility of Toronto signing either player to a long-term contract deal.
Guerrero expressed reluctance to leave Toronto, but recognizes that it may not be his choice. He is certainly the more appealing trade possibility right now, with a.288 average and 14 home runs. Bichette, who has battled throughout the season, is perhaps less appealing with a.222 average.
The Blue Jays are 44-52 entering play on Friday, 9.5 games shy of the AL Wild Card. They aren’t going anywhere this year, and it’s unclear if they’ll be good enough next year to justify sticking with their core.
