Iron Maiden vocalists Bruce Dickinson and Paul Di’Anno met for the first time yesterday night (July 13) thanks to a scheduling coincidence.
The current leader was doing a gig in support of his solo album The Mandrake Project in Zagreb, Croatia, when the moment happened. To promote his impending debut album with his new band Warhorse, Di’Anno appeared at the same location.

When Di’Anno, now 66, joined Maiden in 1978, the band’s line-up was still being finalized. He led Steve Harris’s band throughout the production of The Soundhouse Tapes, the demo that led to their signing, as well as for the release of their 1980 self-titled debut album and their 1981 album Killers. After arguments with Harris and manager Rod Smallwood, he was fired, although in 2020 he stated he didn’t think they were wrong to make the move.
The 65-year-old Dickinson took over as lead vocalist just in time to lead the group during their breakthrough record The Number of the Beast. She stayed in that role throughout what is now considered the band’s golden era until her departure in 1993. He came back six years later and has been in the same role ever since.
In the 45-second clip, the rock stars talk about physical health. Di’Anno, who is confined to a wheelchair, explains how much movement he can do and how it impacts his emotional state while he waits for knee surgery. Before informing Dickinson, “Right then, I’m going to have to fly, me old mate!” he acknowledges, “I won’t be getting back on the Harley any time soon.”

In 2022, Di’Anno and Harris got back together in Zagreb, where Di’Anno also has his home base. This was their first meeting after their breakup. After a month, the singer’s representatives declared that Maiden would pay for the necessary operation, ending a fan fundraising effort.
After the encounter, Di’Anno remarked, “[It was] brilliant because I met up with Steve’s sister Linda, whom I hadn’t seen in about 30 years.” “And then Rod and Steve were both incredible; it really made my entire year.” It was excellent.
