PARIS—After defeating host France 19–14 in Monday’s quarterfinal match, Canada is still vying for an Olympic gold in women’s rugby sevens.

With 53 seconds left in the second half, Chloe Daniels scored the game-winning try, and the Canadians held off a late French assault to guarantee a semifinal berth.

For Canada, Piper Logan scored two tries and Olivia Apps, the captain, added a conversion. Daniels converted one out of two times, missing just the one that proved to be her winning shot.
