SAD NEWS: As Manager Alex Cora of Red Sox Is Gone Due to…

Trevor Story makes a “huge step” in his injury comeback, and the Red Sox “truly believe” he will be back in the field by 2024.
At first, it was thought that Story would miss the entire season due to shoulder
Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story may be able to make a comeback this season from his April broken glenoid in his shoulder as he will be taking batting practice on the field this coming Monday. Story was expected to be out for at least six months based on his initial prognosis, which almost eliminated the chance of his making a comeback in the final stretch.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora told Boston Globe reporter Alex Speier on Friday, “It’s a huge step.” “I’m truly believing he’ll be a part of this.”

Story, 31, began the seventh season for 31 before suffering a shoulder injury on a diving attempt during a fielding play. Over his three years with the Red Sox, he has often been sidelined by injuries and performed below average. Based on figures maintained by Baseball Reference, he has batted.227/.288/.394 (86 OPS+) in 145 games played thus far, with an estimated contribution of 3.4 Wins Above Replacement.

Story had established himself as a top-tier shortstop with the Colorado Rockies before agreeing to a six-year, $140 million contract with the Red Sox. During his six seasons with Colorado, he recorded a 112 OPS+ and 26.8 WAR. Along with winning two Silver Slugger Awards with the Rockies, Story was a part of two All-Star Games.

The Red Sox have depended on David Hamilton and Ceddanne Rafaela to cover shortstop in Story’s absence. To far, both have generated OPS+ levels above 90.
