Jameson Williams Shatters State Record with Epic NFL Playoff Touchdown Run!

Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams reclaimed the record for the longest touchdown run by an Alabama alumnus in NFL playoff history on Saturday night. This time, he also set the record for the longest touchdown run by any player from an Alabama high school or college in the postseason.

Williams achieved the milestone with a 61-yard touchdown run late in the first half of the Lions’ Divisional Weekend clash against the Washington Commanders at Ford Field in Detroit.

The run broke the previous record held by Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry, who scored a 44-yard touchdown in the Baltimore Ravens’ 28-14 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers during the AFC Wild-Card Weekend just a week earlier. Henry’s run had surpassed Williams’ own 42-yard touchdown from the Lions’ narrow 34-31 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in last season’s NFC Championship Game on Jan. 28, 2024.

Williams’ 61-yard run also eclipsed the previous Alabama high school or college playoff record—a 58-yard touchdown by former Auburn star Ronnie Brown for the San Diego Chargers in their 27-10 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals during the AFC Wild-Card Weekend on Jan. 5, 2014.

With four touchdowns on 17 career rushing attempts, including two in the postseason, Williams has become a key offensive weapon for Detroit. His run on Saturday was also the second-longest touchdown in Lions playoff history, trailing only Doak Walker’s 67-yard score during Detroit’s 17-7 win over the Cleveland Browns in the NFL Championship Game on Dec. 28, 1952.
