Washington’s impressive tradition of wide receiver talent continues as the Huskies add a top player to their roster for the 2025 season. Penn State’s 6-foot, 189-pound wide receiver announced his transfer on social media. He has one year of eligibility left and adds valuable experience to a young receiver corps following the departure of former five-star prospect Johntay Cook II on January 14.
During the 2024 season, he caught 21 passes for 415 yards and five touchdowns, helping Penn State reach the College Football Playoff semifinals. He started six of 16 games and entered the transfer portal after the Nittany Lions’ tight 27-24 loss to Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl. Over three seasons at Penn State, Evans totaled 30 receptions for 564 yards and seven touchdowns.
Evans, who hails from Killeen, Texas, was a three-star prospect who starred as a quarterback and cornerback at Shoemaker High School. During the 2022 recruiting cycle, he was listed as Texas’ 77th wide receiver and 78th player. Evans received offers from several Power Five schools, including Arkansas, Baylor, Oklahoma State, and Utah, but ultimately decided on Penn State over a final group that included Vanderbilt and Rutgers.
With the team’s highest average of 19.8 yards per reception in 2024, Evans became a deep-threat weapon for Penn State. In addition to recording the team’s longest reception of the season—a 59-yard touchdown against Kent State—he caught 80% of his contested targets. However, Penn State’s offensive design limited his opportunities, as tight end Tyler Warren, the John Mackey Award winner, received 135 targets while he only received 38.
Evans joins a wide receiver corps at Washington that is trying to replace Giles Jackson and Jeremiah Hunter, two important starters who have used up all of their eligibility. Evans fits the characteristics of a possible Hunter replacement due to his background playing on the outside. The talented 2025 recruiting class, which includes highly regarded four-star freshmen Deji Ajose, Marcus Harris, Chris Lawson, Dezmen Roebuck, and Raiden Vines-Bright, as well as sophomore Rashid Williams, Hunter’s backup the previous season, will be his rivals.
Evans has the skills to contribute right away as Washington attempts to carry on its illustrious wide receiver history thanks to his demonstrated abilities as a deep threat.
