The Huskies are making moves in the 2026 recruiting class, with an emphasis on attracting top players. While last week’s focus was on offensive targets, today we’re going to some of the top defensive prospects.
Salesi Moa, a highly desired safety from Fremont High School in California, is one important target. Moa, who is ranked 38th in the class, has received offers from prestigious universities around the country, including Utah, Michigan, Michigan State, and Washington. The Huskies have demonstrated their appreciation for him by visiting him throughout the offseason to show their interest. Moa is still a top priority because the Huskies want his hiring to make a big impression.
With powerhouse programs like Oregon, USC, Miami, and Ohio State vying for his commitment, the Huskies are also making a strong push for 4-star defensive back Davon Benjamin from Oaks Christian High School in California. Benjamin is ranked as the No. 4 cornerback nationally and the 47th overall player in the 2026 class.
The UW coaching staff made their interest clear by visiting Benjamin this week, indicating that he is a top priority for the Huskies in the 2026 cycle. Landing Benjamin would be a significant victory for the program as they continue to target elite talent.
The Huskies are heavily chasing Anthony Jones, an edge rusher from Crean Lutheran High School in California. Jones, one of the West’s finest edge prospects, is listed as the No. 16 edge rusher in the nation. He just trimmed his recruiting list to Washington, Arizona State, Michigan, Tennessee, and UCLA. The Huskies are working hard to recruit a high-caliber pass rusher like Jones.
Nearer to home, the Huskies are pursuing Kennedy Catholic High School’s 4-star edge rusher Derek Colman-Brusa. Colman-Brusa is rated as the nation’s 12th best edge rusher and 137th best player overall. Washington seems to be the early favorite to retain him in-state because his sibling is already on the Huskies’ team. However, Oregon, USC, and Ohio State will be fierce rivals for his commitment.
The Huskies are casting a broad net in their 2026 recruitment efforts, targeting elite prospects both locally and nationally. The talents highlighted above present excellent chances for Washington to establish a dominant future. That’s it for today—stay tuned and follow me @asieverkropp for more updates!
