What Alexander Isak has told his Newcastle teammates after Arsenal links – Report

Alexander Isak is the most feared striker in Europe right now and a man on fire.

His brace in Saturday’s 3-1 win at Southampton takes him up to 16 goal involvements (13 goals and three assists) in his last 10 league games and right in the mix for the Premier League golden boot, just two behind Mo Salah at the top.

Constant talk continues (mostly from Sky Sports and Arsenal fans on social media) around his future, but Newcastle United plan to do everything in their power to keep him at the club.

Isak’s behind-the-scenes response to rumours

After revealing that the club will open talks over a new improved contract at the end of the season, The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards has revealed what sources close to Isak have been saying about the player’s response to the non-stop rumours.

A snippet from his latest piece states: ‘Sources have stressed that Isak has not been distracted by the speculation and has told team-mates he is not thinking about leaving.’
Isak has often said how happy he is on Tyneside. He’s settled, he’s scoring goals for fun, he’s one game away from a cup final and we’re back in the mix for Champions League football, with the top five set to qualify based on UEFA’s current coefficient standings.
All the noise is not impacting the Swede on the pitch and it sounds like he’s ignoring it off the field too, with this exactly what we want to hear as we head towards a crucial few months in our season.

Isak’s previous comments on his future

Isak has never spoken like a man who has one eye on a move away. In fact, it’s quite the opposite.

Quizzed on links to Arsenal back in November, he said: “Throughout my career, I have never talked about or really commented on the move rumours during the season. There have been many such years where it has been talked about. It doesn’t affect me.

“I am commenting on my situation in Newcastle, and I have never had any problem there. I am fully focused on my task there and that we will have a fantastic season. There are still great opportunities for that. I have no thoughts about anything else.”

Isak has also played down talk of a contract stand off, adding: “The only thing I can say is that a lot of information and rumours often come out. Much of what I read is not true. So that’s about all I can say about the whole thing.”
