Everything Washington Husky fans need to know about Indiana baseball entering 2025

Washington Husky

The Big Ten baseball scene is drastically different from what many Washington Husky fans witnessed when UW was a member of the Pac-12. While the Big Ten has seen some notable success from some members in the conference, the conference as a whole just isn’t as successful on the baseball diamond as it is in other sports.

Part of that has to do with the weather. With the college baseball season starting in February, it’s hard for teams in the Midwest to really play a lot of home games. Just ask the Indiana Hoosiers, where it’s going to be pretty chilly for the foreseeable future.

The Hoosiers are going to sneak in a few midweek games at home (weather permitting) in February, but they won’t get a home series until Big Ten play starts in the middle of March.

So, what should we really know about the Hoosiers heading into this season? Let’s do a quick rundown over some facts you need to be familiar with as Washington gets set to compete in the Big Ten.

Indiana Hoosiers baseball history overview

The Hoosiers are a consistent team, they haven’t really won a lot, but they’ve been pretty decent, especially in recent years.

Dating back to 1895, which is when they start listing their year-by-year records, this is a program that has an overall winning percentage of .564. That’s not great, really, but it’s not all that bad. Indiana has made it to the NCAA Tournament on 10 different occasions and even managed to make it to Omaha and the College World Series back in 2013. Here’s a quick look at their success.

  • 10 NCAA Tournament appearances (1996, 2009, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2023, 2024)
  • One College World Series appearance (2013, finished 5th)
  • Four Big Ten Tournament Championships (1996, 2009, 2013, 2014)
  • Seven Regular Season Big Ten Championships (1925, 1932, 1938, 1949, 2013, 2014, 2019)
  • One NCAA Regional Championship (2013)

Who is the head coach of the Indiana baseball team?

Heading into his seventh season in Bloomington, Jeff Mercer is the head coach of the Hoosiers. A native of the state of Indiana, Mercer has seen some success since he’s been leading the Hoosiers, including trips to three different regionals, a Big Ten tournament championship, and an overall record of 175-125-1. Prior to being the head coach of the Hoosiers, Mercer was at Wright State for a couple seasons where he went 77-36.

Where does the Indiana Hoosiers baseball team play?

Nestled into Bloomington Indiana is the cozy Bart Kaufman Field, which is where the Indiana Hoosiers baseball team plays its home games. The field opened up in 2013 and its capacity is set at 2,500, but it has seen crowds larger than that since it’s been around.

When will the Washington Huskies face Indiana baseball in 2025?

Trick question, they won’t. At least, they’re not currently scheduled to face one another. The Huskies won’t get the opportunity of meeting up with the Hoosiers in the regular season. It’s theoretically possible that the two might meet up in the Big Ten tournament, but they won’t face off in 2025 unless that happens.
