The Huskies have had recent success, reaching the New Year’s Six bowl game four times in the last nine seasons, including two appearances in the College Football Playoff. Despite the shift to the Big Ten, the program’s standards remain high, particularly with the new twelve-team playoff structure, in which Washington will compete for a position each year.
Quarterback play was one of the team’s weak points last year, but with sophomore Desmond Williams Jr. set to start in 2025, the Huskies have improved their depth at the position. According to On3sports’ National Recruiting/Transfer Portal Reporter Hayes Fawcett, Tulane transfer quarterback Kai Horton has committed to Washington. The 6’4″, 220-pound quarterback has one year of eligibility left.
Although Horton did not have spectacular stats at Tulane, his experience will be beneficial for a Washington team attempting to build a fresh identity under Fisch. Last year was difficult as Fisch tried to rebuild the roster, but with higher expectations for year two, Washington hopes to return to prominence.

On a plus note, Fisch has brought in the nation’s 18th-ranked recruiting class, as well as multiple transfers from established teams who should have an instant impact. Washington will need these additions to make progress in 2025, especially given the difficult timeframe ahead.
The Huskies will face prominent Big Ten teams such as Ohio State, Michigan, and Oregon, as well as a difficult Illinois club projected to be in the top 15. While the competition is fierce, these games offer plenty of opportunities for the program to develop.
While Horton may not be the starting quarterback, his addition boosts a position that Washington hopes to improve. If called upon to play, Horton will be prepared to contribute.
