On Fox’s First Things First program, Jennings questioned the rationale for firing McDermott, who has consistently
“I trust him. He’s a great coach. If you decide to walk on from him, who will replace him? Jennings noted that McDermott has done enough to justify trust from the group.
He then moved the subject to the expectations placed on exceptional quarterbacks, noting that while coaching is important, great quarterbacks must stand up in critical situations.
Using Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes as examples, Jennings emphasized that even with a Hall of Fame coach, Mahomes must elevate his game when it matters.
“When I look at Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes, as good a coach as Andy Reid is, Patrick Mahomes must make plays. He needs to improve his game. Josh Allen simply hasn’t done that,” Jennings stated.
Buffalo’s most recent postseason disappointment occurred in the AFC Championship game against Kansas City, which eliminated the Bills for the fourth time in five seasons.
ennings cited a pivotal moment in the loss, when Buffalo had a chance to tie the game in the waning minutes. According to him, Allen had an opportunity on the final play but failed to capitalize.
“That last drive, I’m not blaming Sean McDermott… Josh Allen had the ball in his hands… That is on Josh. Looking at the play, he had an outlet. “It was built in,” he explained.
