The Five-star quarterback, who transferred from Notre Dame, stands out as one of the most high-profile additions in Auburn’s 2025 recruiting class.
Deuce Knight, a former George County High School (Mississippi) standout, officially transferred to Auburn on October 2, with the Tigers fending off a late push from Ole Miss to secure the elite signal-caller. His early enrollment meant he was already on campus when the spring semester began in January, giving head coach Hugh Freeze an opportunity to work with him.
Freeze, speaking at Senior Bowl practice on Wednesday, had high praise for Knight, particularly his work ethic and drive.
“Man, the maturity he possesses. Even after we recruited him, I wasn’t as aware of Knight,” Freeze admitted. “He spends every day in there studying. And he does not want to wait to be great. He’s working hard today to absorb every bit of knowledge he can.”
Knight is part of an impressive quarterback group Auburn secured for 2025, including Jackson Arnold, Ashton Daniels, and Tanner Bailey. While Arnold is considered the early favorite to start, Freeze also highlighted Daniels, who arrives after starting two seasons at Stanford. Unlike the other quarterbacks, Daniels won’t join the team until the summer, but his experience makes him a strong contender in the QB room.
During his time at Stanford, Daniels passed for 3,947 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions, despite playing with limited surrounding talent. Freeze emphasized that Auburn’s roster will provide him with more weapons to work with, allowing him to maximize his potential.
“I don’t want to say this as a slap toward anyone, but he didn’t have a lot around him, and he still produced significant, significant yards,” Freeze noted.
Beyond his passing ability, Daniels showcased his mobility, rushing for 669 yards and three touchdowns in his final season at Stanford. Freeze believes his dual-threat ability will fit well within Auburn’s offensive system.
“He’s going to come in with a mentality, and he’s got, I mean, his knowledge of the game, his IQ is extremely high,” Freeze told ESPN.
With a deep and talented quarterback class, Auburn is primed for fierce competition at the position heading into the 2025 season.
