MAJOR BREAKING: Panthers Officially Cut Ties with Another High-Profile Coach

Another shakeup has rocked the Carolina Panthers’ coaching staff, signaling a major shift in the team’s defensive leadership. Just when it seemed the dust was settling under new head coach Dave Canales, the organization has made yet another bold move—parting ways with a high-profile assistant. Sources confirmed to The Observer on Friday that the Panthers have abruptly dismissed their assistant defensive backs coach, a surprising development that adds to an already turbulent offseason. With a growing list of departures and fresh faces expected to step in, the team’s defensive identity is undergoing a rapid transformation, leaving many wondering what’s next for Carolina’s evolving staff.

The defensive coaching staff of the Carolina Panthers is still undergoing adjustments. The Observer was notified by sources on Friday that the team had fired the assistant defensive backs coach. During the 2023 offseason, former head coach Frank Reich acquired the former Pro Bowl cornerback. Hall was kept on by new head coach Dave Canales as a member of defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero’s staff for 2024, despite Reich’s short time with the squad. Hall mostly worked with the cornerbacks, such as Jaycee Horn, a Pro Bowl player.

The departure of DeAngelo Hall is a component of a larger reorganization. Outside linebackers coach Tem Lukabu, defensive quality control coach Bobby Maffei, and safety coach Bert Watts were fired after the 2024 season. Nate Carroll, the coordinator of offensive passing games, has sources claim that they have also been dismissed. But as previously revealed by The Observer, the Panthers intend to appoint Los Angeles Rams assistant defensive line coach AC Carter as their new outside linebackers coach.

According to a coaching source who has previously worked with Carter, Carter is a “dynamic” and “high energy” coach who would fit in well with Evero’s scheme, which has defensive linemen and outside linebackers playing similar responsibilities. Renaldo Hill, a former NFL safety, is also anticipated to join the squad in an unnamed role. Hill, a former Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach, did not coach in the NFL the previous season.
