Former Tulane QB Kai Horton Transfers to UW for Final Season
A seasoned quarterback has officially announced his decision to transfer to the University of Washington (UW) for his final year of eligibility. Standing at 6’4″ and weighing 219 pounds, Horton brings experience and depth to the Huskies’ quarterback room as he looks to make an impact in his final collegiate season.
Kai Horton, a product of Carthage High School in Texas, spent four years with the Tulane Green Wave, appearing in a total of 15 games across multiple seasons. His time at Tulane was marked by a steady progression with glimpses of his potential in key performances.
In 2021, Horton saw action in five games as a freshman, completing 8 of 19 passes for 88 yards, though he struggled with three interceptions and no touchdowns. His role expanded in 2022, where he played in four games, highlighted by an 11-of-21 passing performance for 132 yards in a win over Houston. He finished that season completing 13 of 23 passes for 165 yards, throwing three touchdowns without an interception.
The 2023 season saw Horton take on a more prominent role, appearing in five games and completing 44 of 82 passes for 604 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. However, his opportunities diminished in 2024, as he played in just one game, completing his only pass for nine yards in Tulane’s season opener against Southeastern Louisiana.
This isn’t Horton’s first stint in the transfer portal. He briefly entered last year before ultimately deciding to stay at Tulane. Now, with his future set at UW, he joins a crowded quarterback room featuring four other signal-callers. Horton is expected to compete with Shea Kuykendall for the backup role behind highly touted freshman Demond Williams Jr.
With his experience and size, Horton could prove to be a valuable addition to the Huskies, providing depth and leadership in the quarterback rotation. As spring camp approaches, all eyes will be on how he fits into UW’s offensive system and whether he can challenge for playing time in his final collegiate season.
