Report: Chicago Bears Welcomes New Head Coach

The Chicago Bears’ defensive staff is taking shape after Dennis Allen was hired as defensive coordinator. Their latest hire has one of the longest and most illustrious careers of any assistant coach in the business. More than four decades of experience.

According to Aaron Wilson of Houston’s KPRC, the Bears are signing defensive line coach Bill Johnson. He was most recently the defensive line coach for the Birmingham Stallions of the United Football League.

He brings to the Windy City almost 45 years of coaching expertise in the NCAA, NFL, and UFL. He began his career as a graduate assistant at Northwestern State in 1980 before becoming the defensive line and outside linebackers coach. He made his NFL coaching debut in 2001 with the Atlanta Falcons, where he coached the defensive line.

During his stay with Atlanta, he met Dennis Allen, who worked as a defensive quality control coach. The plaudits for Bills’ work with the Atlanta Falcons, Denver Broncos, New Orleans Saints, and Los Angeles Rams alone are worthy ofof praise. Bill Johnson coached All-Pros Aaron Donald, Cam Jordan, Rod Coleman, and Patrick Kerney. He has won national championships with LSU (2019) and Miami (1987), as well as one Super Bowl (XLIV) and, most recently, the UFL (2024).Between DT Gervon Dexter Sr. and DE Montez Sweat, the Bears already have some nice components to build around. With a few additional pieces and Bill Johnson’s cautious supervision, this pass rush up front might be dangerous. Dennis Allen, who has emphasized that he wants an aggressive defensive approach, will be well-suited to this job.
