We’ve known who the Virginia Tech Hokies will play in 2025. Now, we know the when. The season opener against former Hokie Shane Beamer and South Carolina has been set for a while and will kick off the season on Sunday, August 31, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Virginia Tech will open next season against two SEC teams. One week after playing South Carolina in Atlanta, the Hokies will welcome Vanderbilt to Blacksburg in a rematch from the 2024 season-opener. The Commodores upset the Hokies in Nashville, but as it turned out, Vandy ended up having a pretty good team.

Here’s Virginia Tech’s full schedule:

  • Sunday, Aug. 31: South Carolina (Atlanta, Ga)
  • Saturday, Sept. 6: Vanderbilt (Blacksburg)
  • Saturday, Sept. 13: Old Dominion (Blacksburg)
  • Saturday, Sept. 20: Wofford (Blacksburg)
  • Saturday, Sept. 27: at N.C. State (Raleigh, N.C.)
  • Saturday, Oct. 4: Wake Forest (Blacksburg)
  • Saturday, Oct. 11: at Georgia Tech (Atlanta, Ga.)
  • Saturday, Oct. 18: BYE
  • Thursday, Oct. 23 or Friday, Oct. 24: at California (Blacksburg)
  • Saturday, Nov. 1: Louisville (Blacksburg)
  • Saturday, Nov. 8: BYE
  • Saturday, Nov. 15: at Florida State (Tallahassee, Fla.)
  • Saturday, Nov. 22: Miami (Blacksburg)
  • Saturday, Nov. 29: at Virginia (Charlottesville)

The biggest takeaway here is that Virginia Tech has seven home games and only four true road games. With that many home games, it’s surprising to see only one on Thursday — or Friday. The schedule is tough to begin with and looks to be difficult in November, too. Miami and Louisville will be difficult matchups and you can guarantee that Florida State will not be as bad next season as they were in 2024.
