The NBA trade world has been vibrated by an incredible multi-team blockbuster, and the New York Knicks are at the center of the action. In a deal that only a few imagined coming, major names are on the move this time, reshaping rosters and shaking up championship aspirations.
The Knicks issued a press release (via Twitter) announcing the official completion of the four-team trade that sends Khris Middleton to the Wizards and Kyle Kuzma to the Bucks. Washington also issued a press release confirming the agreed agreement.
The following are the conditions of the agreement, which also applies to the Spurs:
- The Bucks receive Kuzma, Jericho Sims, a protected second-round pick (from Spurs), and the second-most favorable 2025 pick from the Pistons, Suns, or Warriors.
- Middleton, AJ Johnson, the draft rights to Mathias Lessort (from the Knicks), the option to exchange their own 2028 first-round pick for the Trail Blazers’ or Bucks’ 2028 first-round pick (whichever is less desirable), and $1 million in cash are all acquired by the Wizards from the Bucks.
- The Knicks purchase Delon Wright, the Bucks’ draft rights to Hugo Besson, and $2 million in cash.
- Spurs acquire Patrick Baldwin Jr. and cash ($4.13MM; from Bucks).
Note: If the Trail Blazers haven’t conveyed their lottery-protected 2025 first-round pick by 2027 and it lands outside the lottery in 2028, it would be ineligible to be swapped; in that scenario, the Wizards would simply have the right to swap their own 2028 first-round pick for the Bucks’ 2028 first-round pick.
The Bucks and Spurs’ Kuzma/Middleton deal was first reported on Wednesday morning. You can read our complete account of that initial deal here.
Later, Milwaukee extended the trade by negotiating a second side deal with San Antonio for Baldwin and another with New York for Sims.
The Bucks are allowed to pay out cash in the deal because the agreement enables them to cut enough salaries below the second tax apron. Earlier today, Fred Katz of The Athletic published the specifics of the money going to each team.
The only other modifications from the previously reported terms are that Lessort’s draft rights are moving from New York to Washington rather than Milwaukee, and the Spurs are handing the Bucks a protected second-round pick. Details about the second round are still to be determined.
