In a phone call with Wisconsin Sports Heroics on Sunday morning, Packers Hall of Famer Gilbert Brown lamented the loss of Coach Jauron, one of the most-respected coaches in Green Bay on a staff that included five future NFL head coaches.
“Coach was, when he was with us, he was like a quiet storm. One of those instructors that quietly went about his work, but you understood what he was doing,” Brown said. “He deserved every moment of becoming a head coach. Seeing him expand, some guys get into specific positions.
They change. They gain power, and they alter. He never did. Of course, we weren’t present while he was with Chicago, but you can see and hear it. He’ll be sadly missed.
Jauron was the Packers’ defensive backs coach from 1986 until 1994. He collaborated with renowned Packers secondary players including Doug Evans, George Teague, Chuck Cecil, and LeRoy Butler.
“RIP to my first NFL position coach with the Packers. Jauron was unquestionably a technical teacher of the game, encouraging DBs to have outstanding footwork and “attack the ball.” Except for my extremely long rookie preseason (unlike today), I never had the opportunity to play for him. However, he did prepare me for another technician, Herm Edwards! The actual technical responsibility coaches are valued entities in the NFL.”
There are surely hundreds of former players that have the same sentiment about losing Coach Jauron. He will be much missed by the NFL community.
