Virginia Tech is already in the process of a huge shakeup that could redefine its offensive identity. With a crucial vacancy to fill, the Hokies have set their sights on a rising coaching mind from the NFL ranks—one known for innovation and game-changing strategies.
Virginia Tech is making a major move in its coaching staff, reportedly targeting Buffalo Bills assistant Christian Taylor for the Hokies’ offensive coordinator position. According to Bruce Feldman of The Athletic, while an official agreement has yet to be finalized, sources indicate that a deal is expected to be completed in the near future.
Taylor’s potential arrival marks a significant step in shaping Virginia Tech’s offense moving forward. Prior to joining the Bills, he made a name for himself as an offensive innovator during his tenure at William & Mary, where he served as the offensive coordinator and running backs coach from 2020 to 2023. Under his leadership, William & Mary developed one of the most dominant rushing attacks in the Colonial Athletic Association, consistently ranking among the conference’s best ground-game units. His expertise in run-game design and offensive scheming played a pivotal role in the team’s offensive success.
Although Taylor spent the 2024 season on the defensive side of the ball as a quality control coach for the Bills, his background is firmly rooted in offense. His ability to develop high-powered rushing schemes and maximize player potential makes him an intriguing fit for the Hokies as they look to revamp their offensive identity.
Virginia Tech is seeking to fill the vacancy left by Tyler Bowen, who departed earlier this month to take on the role of offensive line coach at Ohio State under Ryan Day. Bowen had served as the Hokies’ offensive coordinator since 2022, and his departure left a crucial opening that Virginia Tech is eager to address with a coach who can bring innovation and efficiency to the unit.
With Taylor expected to take over the reins, Virginia Tech fans could see a renewed emphasis on a dynamic and well-structured running game, potentially giving the Hokies an edge in ACC competition. As negotiations near completion, all eyes will be on Blacksburg to see how Taylor’s coaching philosophy will shape the team’s offensive future.
